It was a foggy evening in Pacific Rim National Park, when I met Jen and Kyle for their connection session. We started the photoshoot in Ucluelet. The fog rolled in off the ocean and the sunset created an orange haze. We climbed over the black rocks and cliffs - it felt surreal. After, we carried on down the highway to Long Beach, just outside of Tofino, to catch the last bit of light. The park was the perfect backdrop to capture their connection with each other. They are both such easy going and happy people. Their smiles are contagious, and I was lucky to be able to make the trip to one of my favourite places to photograph them.
Nothing beats a Sunday afternoon at home. Am I right?! Sunbeams become perfect resting places, snuggling is a priority and time slows down - just a bit. Here's a cozy at-home session with photographer and friend, Kelly Brown, and partner Bryce. It's plain to see the warm connection they share. Their apartment is the epitome of charming, with window light house cats dreams of.
Back in May, my partner Craig and I set off on a once in a life time trip to Iceland. It's probably no surprise that Iceland is up there on many wedding photographer's dream locations list- and rightfully so. The country is made up of an epic combination of landscapes, leaving you breathless and in awe at every turn. We took eleven days for our trip around the ring road. We rented a tiny camper van and travelled counterclockwise around the country. Little did I know, there was a surprise in store for me.
We started with the Golden Circle, just north of Reykjavik, and explored Gullfoss and the geysers. Experiencing a waterfall that grande set the tone for the entire trip. I can't tell you how many times we uttered the words 'wow!'. In the south we saw more waterfalls; huge, roadside attractions, one after the next. I didn't think it could be possible to be desensitized to seeing such a force of nature, but by end of our trip we definitely joked about it. In one town in the east fjords we could see twelve waterfalls in plain sight.
The highlight of the trip for me was a visit to Fjadrargljufur Canyon. It was sunset and we were lucky enough to have the place almost to ourselves. Craig took me by total surprise and proposed at one of the lookouts. Of course, I said yes! It's been eight wonderful years of growth with this man and I am honoured to continue on this journey with him....wow typing that makes me feel all of the feels again! Once we made it north in the country, we did a little engagement shoot at the Godafoss waterfall to celebrate.
Glaciers, icebergs, lava fields, fjords, each day of our trip offered another glimpse into mother nature's vast beauty. I put together this collection of photos in an attempt to share that; but truly, photos don't do it justice. If you can, take a trip and experience it for yourself.
Lastly, I have to send a big thank you to Craig for helping me capture a series of self-portraits I was working on during the trip. It didn't matter if it was freezing cold or we were smack dab in the middle of a wind storm, he was the best human tri-pod a girl could ask for. Thanks babe! <3
Lissa and Sebastien were the winners of my Connection Session Giveaway in January, and they travelled over to Vancouver Island to explore Botanical Beach with me for an afternoon. These two recently got engaged and are currently living long-distance, with Seb studying in New York, and Lissa living and working in Vancouver. This session was extra special, as it was the day before Seb took off east again for the semester.
Lovers of the west coast, this adventure was the perfect way to commemorate their engagement and do a bit of exploring. Botanical Beach is know for it's tide pools which house many sea urchins. We arrived at low tide so we could easily access the pools and check out it's creatures. Then we hiked the loop to the beautiful Botany Bay, where we took in the sunset.
Lissa and Seb have a warm energy and a thirst for exploring nature. Photographing the two of them was such a pleasure.
Thank you guys for the awesome day! :)
