What is the process like?
I work closely with my couples to understand their vision and bring it to life.
It all starts with a meet up (Skype or in-person) to get to know each other and swap stories. Let's be friends!
Once we know we are a good fit, you secure your date with a signed booking package and retainer fee.
After that, the real fun begins!
I'll share with you my wedding planning tips and provide unlimited consultation.
Whether you're dreaming of beautiful golden-hour portraits, or getting a photo of Grandma kicking it on the dance floor,
I'll help you plan the photography timeline accordingly.
Where are you based?
I live on Vancouver Island, on the rugged west coast of British Columbia, Canada. I was born on the east coast, in Newfoundland, and have since slowly made my way across Canada over the course of a lifetime road trip. Apparently I have a soft spot for big rocks in the sea.
Do you travel?
Absolutely! I jump at the chance to explore other parts of the country and the rest of the world. Travel keeps me curious. I'm happy to add your destination to my travel itinerary and will work with you to make a custom package that works for your wedding. I offer discounts if your wedding is in a place I've been dying to get to, so reach out!
What is your shooting style?
My background is in journalism, and my shooting style reflects that. I specialize in telling the story of your day, from beginning to end. On the day, you'll find me where the action is, capturing those magic moments as they happen. During the portrait part of the wedding day I help direct you, keeping things fun and comfortable, and capturing your interactions.
Do you use backup gear?
Yes, always. For you camera-lovers, I shoot Canon. I bring an array of lenses, batteries and memory cards, and the photos are backed up immediately after your wedding.
When will we receive our images?
I will post a few sneak peak photos to my website a few days after your wedding. This way you have something to share with your friends and family right away. You will receive your digital, edited files within 10 weeks of your wedding day, via an online gallery.
What are your rates?
Elopements start at $2200. Full day weddings start at $3600. I offer a variety of packages to suit your timeline, location and plans. Get in touch and I'll send you my full information package.
Do you offer albums and prints?
I sure do! I currently offer beautiful heirloom wedding albums. Check them out here. Prints can be ordered directly from your gallery - easy peasy!
How can we book?
Let's get to know each other! Tell me a bit about yourselves, your plans and what's inspiring you aesthetically so I can get a sense of your vision. This way we can make sure we're a good fit for before we start. Once that is taken care of, I require a 40% retainer fee and a signed contract - and we're ready to go!
There are lots of options out there for wedding vendors and weeding through them can be daunting. Here are some of my favourite artists to work with.
Like myself, they care deeply about their clients and go the extra mile to help you achieve your vision.
KIND WORDS from my clients
"Kim is a warm, passionate and super fun person to work with. She so clearly loves what she does and puts her heart and soul into achieving her beautiful and unique aesthetic style. Choosing Kim as our engagement wedding photographer has been one of our best decisions- I can trust completely that she will do an incredible job and capture not just the important moments but do so while always bearing in mind the unique people we are. She's a star."
"You are an all around awesome person! You were so excited about our theme. You were a pleasure to be around. You showed up to our wedding in costume! Couldn't have asked for anything more.
We were a little concerned about the cost as we were trying to keep our budget as low as possible, but looking at your photos and thinking that we would only get one chance to have amazing photos for a lifetime, we decided it was worth it. And it was! "
Kate & Steve - Farm wedding
"We are based in Nanaimo, and you are based in Victoria, but you were so good about keeping in contact with us and flushing out all the details. You were forthcoming and prompt with info and responses and you made this part of planning EASY and for that I am forever grateful. We wanted our photos to be art rather than just photos.... and I am so not photogenic, so we needed someone who could handle all the weird faces we make :) KIM JAY you are FANTASTIC!"
Michelle & Sean- backyard Wedding
"We both loved your vibe and attitude. We didn't feel rushed, and we felt you had it all under control - we could rely on you to remind us of what we needed to do next in the midst of it all. We liked how you just melded in with us and the wedding, and got along so well with our guests...it didn't feel like like the photos were an interruption to the day. We both feel lucky that we got to work with you on our wedding day and we couldn't be happier with how our photos turned out."
Tara & Wes - Lakeside Wedding
"You capture the "feeling" of the day. You have an ability to blend into the crowd and still capture every moment without us even knowing you were around. You were so professional and yet so casual and flexible with everything throughout the day. You absolutely captured the simple, perfect moments. Every time I look back at my photos I can feel every drop of love that was present on that day. I see how much fun everyone had and how happy everyone felt and it brings me back to how I felt. This is worth more than just a keepsake to me."
Nicole & Neil - Vineyard Wedding
"I loved your journalistic style of photography and how genuine you were when we discussed my wedding and "vision". I liked that you were a chill and kind woman. I also felt like you asked a lot of the right questions, which to me meant that you truly wanted to capture what I was wanting of our big day. I was very happy that you were able to capture all of those candid moments and also some sweet/romantic ones as well."
